The Centro de Divulgacion Astronomica Paranal-UCN is a collaboration between ESO (European Southern Observatory) and the Institute of Astronomy of the Universidad Católica del Norte.
The goal of the centre is to share the exciting results from astronomy with the general public in Antofagasta, and increase the awareness of the importance of astronomy in the Second Region of Chile. The centre in collaboration with the Departamento de Física of the Universidad Católica del Norte has a mobile planetarium, planetario Brackett, with which university students visit schools. Currently the planetarium uses a mirror, but we are in the process of building a proyector that will enhance the experience of the students.
If you are interested in a visit of the planetarium to your school, please email us. Further, the center organises every first Friday of the month, with exception of the months January and February, a public talk in which a professional astronomer talks about a current theme in astronomy. The talks start at 19:30 hrs. in the auditorium of the physics department on the UCN campus and are in Spanish.
