Fernando Selman : The Stellar IMF and its Variations

For over a decade we have been studying the most extreme cases of star formation to determine
whether the mass spectrum of stars at birth depends on the conditions under which stars
forms. I will present the results and the methodology of these studies in three different environments: the ionizing cluster
of the Tarantula nebula in the LMC, the field population around the 30 Doradus superassociation, and the Arches
cluster near the center of the galaxy.
