GEORGE HAU :Reverse morphological transformation in Early-type galaxies
“Reverse morphological transformation in Early-type galaxies”
The transient nature of a galaxy’s morphology is a feature of contemporary galaxy formation models. While forward transformation – from late- to early- type – has been well studied, observationally
there are few examples of reverse transformation. I present the search of such galaxies at low redshifts. Combining deep Halpha and broad-band imaging with archival HI maps, I find evidence of reverse
morphological transformation in two dust-lane early-type galaxies. I shall present their current star formation properties, and examine their origins and ultimate fates.
