Star Formation Postdoctoral Fellow
The institute of astronomy of the Universidad Católica del Norte invites applications for a post-doctoral position to study the properties of Be stars using primarily the ESO 1 m telescope on La Silla. The applicant will work together with Dr. Chini who has a joined appointment at UCN and the University of Bochum.
The institute is currently undergoing a phase of expansion, with 2 faculty members and a post-doc hired within the last 2 years, and another post-doc position been advertised recently. The institute has a timeshare on all the telescopes of the Ruhr-Universität-Bochum located near Cerro Armazones, the future site for the E-ELT. The successful applicant can apply for the 10% Chilean time on the international telescopes in Chile.
Candidates must have a PhD in physics or astronomy before the start date and have expertise in the analysis of optical image data. Knowledge of optical spectroscopy is an advantage. The position is for 1 year, is available from July 1st, and does include funds for computational facilities and national/international travel. If the project is successful an extension by 2 more years is likely.
Informal inquiries should be addressed to Rolf Chini (rolf.chini[@]gmx.de).
Applications should be submitted to Beatriz Perez (firstname.lastname@example.org) and should include a CV, publication list, a brief summary of research interests, and contact details of at least 2 referees. For full consideration the application should be submitted before May 1st 2012.
