Stylianos Pyrzas: Dancing, singing and otherwise busy white dwarfs
“Dancing, singing and otherwise busy white dwarfs”
Universidad Católica del Norte
White dwarfs (WDs) comprise the most common type of stellar remnant. Due to their ubiquity, population studies and large-number statistics are entirely feasible, and as such, WDs are very useful in many different areas of Astronomy. In this talk, I will give an overview of the most important aspects of white dwarf research, focusing on WDs in post-common envelope binaries, mass-radius measurements and pulsations, but also including planets around WDs, WDs with IR-excess and the initial-final mass relation of WDs.
