Tenure track astronomy professor

We are looking for a tenure-track astronomy professor at the Instituto de Astronomia in Northern Chile. The university has a 20-30% timeshare on all the telescopes at the Observatorio Cerro Armazones (OCA) of the Ruhr-Universitat Bochum, located right next to where the E-ELT will be built. The telescopes at OCA are a twin 15 cm and a 40 cm robotic optical telescopes, an 80 cm IR telescope and a 1.5 m optical telescope. In the near future a robotic 25 cm telescope will be added. The institute also has at its disposal a 1 m telescope on La Silla, for remote observing.

We are looking for astronomers who will use these small telescopes, in addition to using the large astronomy facilities in Chile through the 10% Chilean time on all international telescopes, such as the VLT, ALMA, Gemini-South and in the future the E-ELT. The candidate should have a strong and proven research record track. The institute has a focus on stellar astronomy which it wants to strengthen, but applications from people working on AGN or Galactic structure will also be considered. Candidates with ample observing experience and/or engineering, including software development, are especially welcome. Professors currently teach 2 astronomy courses per year, and an interest in outreach is a plus.

If interested, please send a cover letter, CV, publication list, research statement, name of 3 people willing to write a reference letter, and optionally a statement about outreach to Rolf Chini by February 1st 2013. The successful candidate can start immediately.
